Lipids meaning

Lipids are a diverse group of naturally occurring molecules that include fats, oils, waxes, sterols, phospholipids, and fat-soluble vitamins (such as vitamins A, D, E, and K). They play several crucial roles in the body, including storing energy, forming the structural components of cell membranes, and serving as signaling molecules. Triglycerides, a type of lipid, are the main form of stored energy in the body. Cholesterol, another lipid, is essential for the synthesis of steroid hormones, bile acids, and vitamin D. While lipids are vital for health, imbalances in lipid levels, such as high cholesterol or triglycerides, can increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
