Natural Herbal Remedies for Effective Wellbeing
Natural remedies are used all over the world and have been used to treat complaints for about as long as we humans have been around. They are used for just about everything you can imagine, from relieving the pain of a sore throat to treating the problem of infertility.
Some herbs are simply naturally good for you in their natural form and can be found in vitamin shops like Holland & Barrett, while others need to be brewed into teas, crushed into salves, or processed into the form of tablets.
Even if you don’t have any particular problem, herbal remedies can be good for you – they can help to boost your immune system and even improve your digestive and cardiovascular health, as long as you take the recommended amount.
However, a quick word of warning – make sure you let your doctor know if you are taking any herbal remedies; although they are not classed as typical “medications” they can negatively affect some prescribed drugs.
Echinacea
One of the most popular herbal supplements, Echinacea is taken to help power up the immune system. Its popularity peaks at a particular time each year: during flu season. People tend to view Echinacea as the herbal equivalent of our pal, Vitamin C.
It is also known as purple coneflower, as it is derived from the plant of that name, and has been used to treat a wide variety of illnesses in addition to boosting the immune system.
Celery Seed
Celery seed is another herb that has a long history of being used to treat ailments; it is known for its healing properties, especially when it comes to joint troubles. Celery seed is used to ease joint pain and inflammation, but also contains loads of essential vitamins and minerals – Vitamin C, calcium, iron, and niacin, to name just a few.
Celery seed also makes an effective laxative and can be used as an aphrodisiac as well. Due to it containing high levels of sodium, it is also a good treatment for joints suffering from arthritis.
Cloves
Yes, the cloves you use to add a nice bit of flavor also have medicinal uses – they are mostly used to better circulation. Mix cloves with a bit of honey to aid digestion and prevent vomiting, or take clove oil to keep your skin looking nice and healthy.
Dandelion
Often thought of as mere pesky weeds, dandelions can actually help you stay in good health – the stems are packed with Vitamins A and C, iron, magnesium, and potassium, while the leaves contain both riboflavin and thiamine, both of which are essential minerals.
Dandelion is also good for the bowels and can aid digestion. It is also used to treat gall bladder dysfunctions and liver illnesses, so stock up!
Evening Primrose
Evening primrose oil contains some of those lovely Omega-6 fatty acids that you hear so much about, and women have been using it for generations to help ease pre-menstrual complaints.
