Tips for Contact Lens Users of All Ages

Contact lenses are used to correct refractive errors. They are also used to correct certain special eye diseases. Normally, the cornea is spherical.

If a patient has a conical cornea, the condition is called a conical cornea or keratoconus. In such cases, the pressure of the contact lens flattens the cornea.

If a patient has a white mark on the cornea, colored contact lenses can be given for cosmetic reasons. Color contacts are often used to change the color of the eyes.

The advantages of contact lenses over spectacles?

Contact lenses have cosmetic value; the patient need not wear specs. Further, side vision is better with contact lenses. Contact lenses should be used if the difference in power of the two eyes is more than 5 dioptres since the patient will start seeing double if he uses glasses. This is because the two eyes cannot cope with a difference of more than 5 dioptres with glasses.

Contact lenses give a more normal image than spectacles. Contact lenses are also preferred for refractive errors of high degrees. Lens care requires only a few minutes each day, good hygiene, and good habits.

Colored Contact Lenses

Bored with your sedate black or brown eyeballs? Take heart, you can try colour blending and enhancing, thanks to this season’s hottest trend – colour contact lenses.

Tips to pick the color contact lens

For Dark Eyes

Choose contact lenses in Blue, Green, Grey and Hazel

For Light Eyes

Choose contact lenses in Aquamarine, Jade, Green, Sky Blue and Violet Blue

Few points to be considered

  • You will have to choose a colour that will blend with your hair colour and skin tone. For instance, darker skin and hair tend to look better with green, hazel, grey or brown lenses. Lighter skin and hair work well with blue, green, aqua or violet lenses.
  • If you are tempted by more than one colour, choose disposable lenses, which give you the added flexibility of choosing several colours to match various moods and outfits.

The Right Way To Use Your Contact Lenses

Here we are mentioning some points you can follow to use your contact lenses in the right way.

  • Before you put make-up on your face, wear your lenses.
  • Avoid lash-extending mascara, which has fibers that can irritate your eyes.
  • Do not use waterproof mascara that cannot be easily removed with water and may stain soft contact lenses.
  • Remove lenses before removing makeup.
  • Choose an oil-free moisturizer.
  • Do not use hand creams or lotions before handling contacts. They can leave a film on your lenses.
  • Use hairspray before putting on your contacts. If you have to use hairspray after wearing your contacts, close your eyes and spray. Keep your eyes closed for a few seconds after using hair spray.
  • Blink your eyes frequently while under a hair drier or blower to keep your eyes from getting too dry.
  • Keep false eyelash cement, nail polish, nail polish remover, perfume, and cologne away from the lenses. They can damage the plastic.

Note: Even if you are wearing a lens to enhance your appearance and not for vision correction, you still need to receive a contact lens eye test before your lens can be dispensed. This allows your eye care professional to determine if you have any eye conditions that worsen with the use of lenses and to give you instructions regarding the proper use and care of lenses.
