Do you exercise? Worry a lot, or only once a week? Are you 20? 30 years? 40 years? 50 years? 60? How many calories do you need every day? Well, it depends! It depends on your age, it depends on your level of physical activity, it depends on how much you eat every day.

How Many Calories Do You Need Per Day?
We need enough calories (energy) to offset our energy costs every day to keep us healthy and maintain our weight. If you eat more calories than you spend, you gain weight, and if you eat less you lose weight. Our 24-hour energy expenditures are classified into three categories.
- 60-70% of our expenses are used for our metabolic rate, which powers all our organs.
- 20-40% is used when you do sport (this one is very variable)
- 10% is used for stucco and digestible nutrients.
As you can see, the energy requirements can vary widely by individual, especially when you consider the amount of energy needed for basal metabolism and different for everyone too, and depends on several factors such as age, sex, weight, etc. The World Health Organization determines the average rate of energy that people need to maintain a constant weight. It’s not perfect of course, because everyone is different, but a good guide. Here are some examples:
- A woman of 20 to 40 years: Inactive: 1900 calories, regular activities of the general
- population: 2200, Physical Activity Important: 2400
- A man of 20 to 40 years: Inactive: 2400 calories daily activity of the general population:
- 2700 Physical Activity Important: 3080
